NC Auto Inspections

As of November 1st, 2008 windshield inspection stickers are no longer be issued when your vehicle is inspected. Rather than receive a sticker, vehicles will be given an electronic authorization which reports that the vehicle has been inspected and registered as required by law.

The NC Safety Inspection

  • All safety items (lights, tires, wiper blades, etc) are inspected in accordance with NC state regulations
  • All emission devices (muffler, exhaust system, egr valve, catalytic convertor, etc) are inspected in accordance with NC state regulations
  • Once the vehicle passes the inspection process, the results are transmitted electronically to the DMV.

North Carolina has a new tool for fighting ozone-forming emissions from gasoline-operated vehicles. Holly Ridge Tire is required to use a more effective method for testing the air-pollution controls on vehicles. This is required on vehicles that are year model 1996 or newer. Diesel-operated vehicles only require a safety inspection.

The NC Emissions Inspection

  • Includes everything in the NC Safety Inspection ... Plus
  • The vehicle's on-board diagnostic (OBD) is scanned and all systems are checked for proper operation
  • Once the vehicle passes the inspection process, the results are transmitted electronically to the DMV.

The NC Inspection Tint Test

All windows with after-factory window tinting must be checked during the safety inspection. Windows may not be any darker than 32% visible light transmission when tested by our photometer. There are exceptions to the window tint standards, so please ask one of our team members if you have ant questions or concerns. All applicable windows are tested using a state approved and calibrated photometer.
